Innovative technologies such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Services Automation (RAISA) have the potential to offer numerous opportunities to both the tourism and hospitality sectors. These technologies can enhance product delivery, ensure consistency, and empower customers by transferring processes to them. Furthermore, the implementation of RAISA in hotel operations could significantly contribute to the transition toward sustainability and the realization of circular hotels.
Despite recent technological advancements in RAISA, there has been limited focus on its implications for sustainable operations management in high-contact service industries like tourism and hospitality, particularly in economies heavily reliant on tourism, such as Ireland. This study aims to assess the current level of RAISA adoption within the hotel sector in Ireland and analyse the factors perceived as enablers or barriers to its adoption by hotel owners, managers, and employees.
In addition to expanding the existing literature and enhancing our understanding of this understudied area of tourism research, the findings of this nationwide baseline study could provide valuable insights for policymakers, technology providers, and governmental organizations. These insights can guide strategic approaches to adopting RAISA for eco-friendly sustainable hotel operations.
